(he is a cool dude)
He talks about how he tries to do the right things and to be good to people.
What he says next is what I'd like to address: If a supposedly loving and forgiving God accepts a murderer, but turns me away from heaven because I don't believe in him even though I've spent my life being good to people, then I don't want to be with him.
(this hurt my heart)
Maybe you think the same thing. Perhaps someone has said this to you before. While there are a ton of comments that I could speak to, I want to say this one thing:
God LOVED the world and the people in it so much that He sent His only begotten son to die on a cross for sin and WHOEVER believes in His son will LIVE FOREVER with God in heaven. (check John 3:16)
What my friend doesn't see yet is that God already provided the solution for eternal life with him in heaven and he has to accept that solution while he's here - ALIVE - on earth! If we die without accepting the solution, the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ, we will have willingly forfeited the opportunity to enter into to heaven.
It's not about what we do. It's all about what Jesus did.
